About me: I am a communications, engagement and strategy specialist and a personal and corporate coach, who has worked in the not for profit, corporate and public sectors.
Communications experience: Having worked in senior leadership communication roles for a number of Local Authorities – leading multi-disciplinary teams and providing counsel to Board Members, Chief Executives and Politicians - I bring expertise across the strategy and communications spectrum, including delivering award winning social campaigns. I am passionate about utilising communications and engagement to support the creation of organisational culture, manage change, and create positive social impact.
With a BA Hons in Marketing and a Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism, I have used the power of communication and story-telling to meaningfully connect with audiences, define narrative, inspire behaviour change and create a sense of shared purpose.
Now working as an independent consultant, clients include the London Borough of Waltham Forest, Northamptonshire County Council, and Westco.
Professional Skills and Expertise: Communications and engagement strategy, team development and coaching, employee engagement, reputation, media and crisis management, change communications and leadership. I have led on a wide range of projects and strategy development, including the creation and management of a charity to help disadvantaged young people and increasing community involvement. I bring a problem solving and can-do approach, as well as a healthy dose of humour.
Coaching approach: I have a life-long interest in psychology, personal development and helping others to achieve their goals. I am a trained coach through the well renowned Barefoot Ltd programme in personal and business coaching, and I am a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
I take a strengths-based approach, working in partnership with clients to gain clarity on goals, identify any roadblocks or limitations and create momentum, action and accountability. In practice this means asking insightful questions, remaining curious and drawing on a range of tools and techniques from the world of coaching and psychology to enable new perspectives.
Trust and confidentiality are paramount, as are creating a supportive and energising environment. Most of all I enjoy working with great people. Clients I have worked with include entrepreneurs, corporate directors and managers, people seeking a new career path and those wanting to improve communication and confidence in the workplace.
My career experience also means I bring extensive knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of navigating complex organisations, working in leadership positions and effective communications.
A recent client testimonial: “I have really benefitted from my sessions with Katie. She has enabled me to identify my skills and attributes, and where I have made an impact in my current role, and this has developed my confidence and focus in the workplace greatly. Katie’s approach is considered but flexible to changing needs and responses, and she allows for exploration of ideas and thoughts whilst being gently challenging to get the most out of the session.”
Other interesting facts: I love to travel as much as possible and escapades have found me visiting Orangutans in Borneo, discovering the cuisine in Japan and enjoying the life affirming scenery in the Himalayas - although I also very much enjoy some down time reading a book on the beach.
